“I communicate with passion, authenticity and purpose — creating space for voices to be heard and for meaningful impact stories to be shared.”
A trusted voice and purpose-driven educator, speaker and convenor, bringing over a decade of experience representing organisations, facilitating learning, dialogue, and collective impact across philanthropy, government, and academia.
I am a strategic partnerships, ecosystem orchestration and strategic communication specialist with over 13 years of transdisciplinary experience spanning government, higher education, philanthropy, and the entrepreneurship ecosystem. As a PhD Scholar, published author (Oxford University Press), award-winning Lecturer (University of Johannesburg — Innovation in Education), former Lead of Strategic Partnerships & Orchestration, and Manager of Communications & Advocacy at Allan & Gill Gray Philanthropy South Africa (AGGP_SA), my work has been at the centre of serving society.
At the core of my work is a deeply authentic people-centred approach to communication. I am a media-trained spokesperson and specialised public speaker, focused on advocacy and development efforts that advance social and economic impact across Southern Africa. What brings me great joy is creating space for voices to be heard and for meaningful impact stories to be shared.
My communication experience includes public relations, executive briefing development, national brand positioning, digital strategy, public speaking and facilitation, and high-level stakeholder engagement. My journey in strategic communication has been recognised by the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA), where I served as a PRISM Awards Industry Judge for four consecutive years.
I have coached high-performing Allan Gray entrepreneurs, built and coordinated a national MOOC in Artificial Intelligence, led large-scale regional ecosystem-mapping initiatives like Allan & Gill Gray Philanthropies' Motse Collective Impact gathering, formalised strategic partnerships with national and global ecosystem actors, and convened multi-stakeholder platforms across government, education, enterprise, and civil society.
Partnerships secured include the Department of Basic Education (DBE), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), One Young World, Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE), and the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN). I have represented my organisations in high-level ministerial engagements, including engagements linked to the Office of the Presidency at the Union Buildings, and within the G20 entrepreneurship learning context.
Alongside my ecosystem leadership journey, I bring a decade of experience in higher education — teaching more than a thousand scholars in public relations and strategic communication. I also coached our current Miss South Africa 2025, Qhawekazi Mazaleni. I remain deeply committed to empowering young people through mentorship and coaching, civic education, innovative learning, and collective reflection.
I am currently a funded Scholar pursuing a PhD in Public and Development Management through the Allan Gray Centre for Africa Entrepreneurship at Stellenbosch University's School of Public Leadership. My research — "Orchestrating Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: A Study of Regional Enablement and Collective Impact in South Africa" — examines how coordination strategies and orchestration practices can strengthen regional entrepreneurship development.
I love learning, diversity, storytelling, and I enjoy leading and connecting with others. I apply empathic thinking in all that I do, and I thrive in multicultural contexts where I can build meaningful cross-functional relationships to achieve greater impact.
A decade of speaking, facilitating and hosting across national platforms — government-linked engagements, ecosystem convenings, and education forums. Selected engagements below.
Formal training, programmes, and industry recognition that inform how I communicate, lead, and represent the organisations I work with.
An intimate bookstore evening at Canal Walk — a paired in-conversation format with questions, readings and a warm room of readers. The kind of host role that lives close to the page.
Media-trained spokesperson with experience representing a multi-national philanthropy in high-level engagements. In my role as Manager: Strategic Partnerships, Communications & Advocacy at Allan & Gill Gray Philanthropy South Africa, I served as a public-facing spokesperson — enabling dialogue and collective reflection within the entrepreneurship ecosystem. I represented the organisation across national convenings, stakeholder engagements, and ecosystem platforms, developing executive messaging and positioning within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
Panel facilitator, spokesperson, and lead project manager for a high-level regional government and ecosystem convening — hosted by Allan & Gill Gray Philanthropy South Africa in partnership with the KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and Enterprise iLembe. I engaged government, enterprise and civil society stakeholders in multi-stakeholder dialogue, led project management of the convening, and developed the full protocol plan — ensuring alignment with government standards and strategic clarity across voices in a live, high-level setting.
Panellist and facilitator in a Western Cape Government–linked ecosystem-building series, hosted by the Allan Gray Centre for Africa Entrepreneurship (AGCAE) in collaboration with the Department of Economic Development and Tourism. In the session on Ecosystem Strategies for Driving Systems Change, I contributed to discussions on collective impact and cross-sector collaboration, and facilitated a working-group session guiding participants through practical strategies to strengthen entrepreneurial ecosystems — reflecting my ongoing work at the intersection of government, academia, and practice.

Public-facing cultural representation in spaces that honour heritage, identity, and national legacy. I had the honour of being part of the launch of the Johnny Clegg statue at the Long March to Freedom heritage site in Century City. Clegg's legacy lives in his ability to bridge cultures through music — telling stories of identity, resistance, and unity during a deeply divided time in South Africa's history. My work in these spaces is grounded in representing initiatives and leaders that celebrate South Africa's diverse cultural identity and legacy.
Award-winning lecturer and national ambassador, translating complex ideas into accessible public communication. I have taught more than 1,000 students in strategic communication and public relations, and was recognised with a Teaching Excellence Award for Innovation in Higher Education. Alongside lecturing, I served as a University of Johannesburg Brand Ambassador — engaging national audiences on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and education pathways — and hosted a high-level district official study visit on 4IR in Education, bringing together education leaders and institutional stakeholders.
Public speaking in practice across advocacy, education, and stakeholder platforms. Pictured here are moments from my public-facing work — engaging audiences, facilitating dialogue, and representing advocacy-focused initiatives across sectors. These moments reflect my ongoing work in communication, storytelling, and stakeholder engagement in practice.
Featured thought leader on communication, authenticity, and skills development. I was profiled as a "Mover and Shaker" in the University of Johannesburg magazine, sharing my perspective on authentic leadership, communication, and skills development — translating lived experience and professional insight into narratives that resonate with broad audiences.
A two-page editorial feature on Simone's journey from university to national spokesperson work.
The continuation of the feature — on craft, convening, and the work of holding a room together.
Beyond my work, I find joy in the simple, grounding moments that bring me back to myself — being outdoors, moving my body, and connecting meaningfully with others. I particularly enjoy running, and three years ago I embarked on a personal journey to re-look at my wellness.
Since then, I've taken part in over 15 races across the Western Cape, including 4 half marathons. While I may not be the fastest runner, I deeply value the experience of exploring the Western Cape province by foot and being surrounded by positive energy and a strong sense of community.
